Is Mealime shutting down? What happens on October 21, 2026
We make Meal Whisperer, a meal planning app, so we’re not a neutral party. Every fact about Mealime and Meals Hub below links to its source.
Yes. Mealime says its app will be discontinued as of October 21, 2026. It hasn’t given a time of day, so treat the whole day as uncertain and save anything you want to keep before then. Mealime’s own recipes carry on inside Meals Hub, but your personal data is deleted when the app shuts down.
If you do only one thing today, write down the names of your favorite recipes and your dietary settings. The rest of this piece is the longer version of why, and what your options are afterwards.
What happens to your recipes and data
It helps to separate the two kinds of content sitting in your account: the recipes Mealime wrote, and everything you built on top of them. They have very different fates.
The recipes Mealime wrote aren’t going anywhere. In Mealime’s own words, “All Mealime recipes will continue to be available on Meals Hub”. The library you cooked from stays reachable; it just lives somewhere else.
What goes away is the part that was yours. Your favorites list, the notes you added, the recipes you added yourself, your meal plans and your preferences all go with the app. Mealime’s notice puts it plainly: “All personal data will be deleted when the Mealime application is shut down.”
Nothing moves across on its own, either. Mealime is direct about it: “Certain preferences and settings will need to be established directly within Meals Hub.” So if you had a diet type, allergies and a list of ingredients to avoid, expect to enter them again by hand wherever you land.
How to save what’s yours before October 21
Mealime has no built-in export button, so there is no one-tap download of your account. Saving it is a manual job, one recipe at a time. It is a short job, and it is worth doing now rather than on the 21st.
- Write down the names of your favorite Mealime recipes. Because Mealime’s own recipes continue in Meals Hub, a list of titles is usually enough to find them again later.
- Copy any notes you added to a recipe. Notes were a Mealime Pro feature, and a September 2, 2026 update made Pro free for everyone, so there may be more saved here than you remember.
- For recipes you added yourself, keep the original website link if the recipe came from one. If it didn’t, take screenshots. Mealime’s help pages also describe printing a recipe from its web app on a computer.
- Write down your diet, your allergies and the ingredients you avoid. That short list is exactly what any app will ask you for when you set yourself up again, so having it saved turns a chore into two minutes of typing.
What is Meals Hub, and who is it for?
Meals Hub is a free recipe and meal planning section built into Albertsons Companies store apps and websites. That covers Safeway, Albertsons, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Acme, Shaw’s, Star Market, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Pavilions, Carrs and Haggen, among others. It is the place Mealime’s recipes carry on.
You don’t need one of those stores nearby to use it. Mealime says: “You can still browse recipes, create meal plans, and generate shopping lists from Meals Hub, even if you’re unable to shop at an Albertsons Cos. store.” There is a web version as well as the store apps, so you aren’t limited to a phone.
One condition is worth knowing before you plan around it: the profile features, dietary preferences among them, need you to sign in to an Albertsons Companies store app. You can browse and plan without a store nearby, but saving how you eat needs that sign-in. Meals Hub suits US shoppers who want to keep cooking Mealime’s recipes.
If you’re on Android or outside the US
Mealime is on Android, and in the US, Meals Hub is in Albertsons’ Android apps too, so an Android user in the States has somewhere to land.
Outside the US it thins out quickly. The Albertsons store apps that host Meals Hub are not offered in many App Store countries, including the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. In Canada, the Albertsons store apps are listed in the App Store, but Canada’s Safeway stores belong to Sobeys, a different company with its own Safeway app. If you live in the UK, Australia, New Zealand or Ireland, the Meals Hub route may not be open to you at all.
On our side, Meal Whisperer is on iPhone and iPad, needs iOS 16.4 or later, is in English, and is available in 174 countries and regions. It is not on Android yet. If that is what you need, there is an Android and web waitlist.
Moving to Meal Whisperer
Meal Whisperer asks how you eat once and keeps the answers as a taste profile. From there it plans a week of dinners, turns that plan into a grocery list, and can create or change recipes to fit the way you eat.
You can bring a recipe in by pasting its link, pasting its text, or photographing up to 10 pages. Importing recipes is part of Meal Whisperer Plus; new subscribers get 7 days free.
