1. Scope and Applicability
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information processed by Meal Whisperer in connection with the Service. It does not apply to information processed by third parties, including any websites, applications, or services linked to or integrated with the Service, which have their own privacy policies. The Service is intended for individuals who are at least 13 years old; please see Section 7 (Children and Family Use) for important information about minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account information: the email address and the name you choose to sign up with. Your name is a display name and does not need to be your legal name. If you sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email address, in which case we receive a private relay address rather than your real one.
- Taste profile: the preferences you enter so we can personalize recipes for you, such as dietary preferences and restrictions, allergies and ingredients to avoid, cuisine preferences, disliked ingredients, and default serving size. You provide this information to filter and tailor the recipes you see; you are not required to enter any of it.
- Health-related goals: if you choose, you can select wellness goals that shape your recipes (for example, heart health, building muscle, or gut health). This information is optional, you control it, and you can change or remove it at any time. Because it relates to your health, we treat it as sensitive information — see Section 2.4.
- Content you create: the recipes you save, import, or generate; meal plans; kitchen and grocery items; and any photos you add (for example, a photo of a dish or a screenshot you import).
- Communications: messages you send to us, such as customer support inquiries.
We never receive your payment card details: subscriptions and credit packs are purchased through the app store, which processes payment and shares only the purchase and subscription information described in Section 2.3.
2.2 Information We Collect Automatically
- Device and log data: when you use the Service, we and our infrastructure providers automatically receive basic technical information needed to operate and secure the app, such as your device type, operating system, app version, IP address, and server-side error logs.
- Local storage: the app stores data on your device (such as sign-in tokens and your settings) so it can keep you signed in and remember your preferences.
- Product usage: we record events about how the app's features are used — for example that a meal plan was created or an image allowance was reached — so we can understand which features work and fix what doesn't. These events are linked to your account and are sent to our own servers. We do not use a third-party advertising or marketing analytics service for this.
2.3 Information from Third Parties
- Sign-in providers. If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive basic account information from that provider (such as your name and email address, or a private relay email if you choose to hide it) to create and authenticate your account.
- App stores and our subscription provider. When you buy a subscription or a credit pack, the app store processes your payment and confirms the purchase to us through the subscription-management provider we use. We receive purchase and subscription information — such as which plan you bought, whether you are in a free trial, when the current period renews or expires, whether a purchase was cancelled or refunded, and a store transaction identifier — together with your account identifier so the purchase can be attached to the right account. We do not receive your payment card number, billing address, or the payment method itself.
2.4 Sensitive Information
Some of the information you may choose to provide — including your allergies, dietary restrictions, and the health-related goals you select — relates to your health and may be treated as "sensitive" or "special category" information under applicable laws (including the EU/UK GDPR and certain U.S. state privacy laws). Providing this information is always optional. We use it to personalize the recipes and content you see, including by sending it to the AI providers that generate your recipes, as described in Section 5, and only with your consent or as otherwise permitted by law. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it. You can view, change, or remove this information at any time in the app, and you can withdraw your consent by removing it.
3. How We Use Information
We use personal information to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you;
- Generate, personalize, and improve the recipes, meal ideas, and content we show you, based on your taste profile and the inputs you provide;
- Save and sync your recipes, meal plans, and lists;
- Process and manage your subscription and any credit packs, including confirming what you are entitled to use, tracking your image allowance, determining free-trial eligibility, and handling renewals, cancellations, and refunds;
- Provide, operate, maintain, and secure the Service, and prevent fraud and abuse;
- Respond to your questions and provide customer support;
- Send you service-related communications and, where you have not opted out, occasional product updates (see Section 12);
- Debug and improve the Service, including by reviewing error reports and aggregated usage information; and
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
4. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK/Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal bases for processing your personal information are:
- Contract: to provide the Service, manage your subscription and purchases, and otherwise perform our agreement with you.
- Legitimate interests: to operate, secure, and improve the Service and prevent fraud and abuse, balanced against your rights and freedoms.
- Consent: for processing the dietary/allergy information in your taste profile where consent is required, and for any optional communications that require it. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation: to comply with laws and respond to legal requests.
5. AI Models and Recipe Generation
A core feature of the Service is generating recipes, meal plans, and ingredient suggestions using artificial intelligence. To do this, we send your inputs — including your taste profile (such as dietary preferences, allergies, and cuisine preferences), the health-related goals you select, and any prompts or recipe details you provide — to third-party AI model providers (foundation model APIs) that generate the results we show you.
Each provider's own handling of the information we send is governed by its terms with us; please see that provider's policies for how it treats data it receives. We may use aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified information and error reports to evaluate and improve the Service.
Recipes, nutritional estimates, and other AI-generated output are produced probabilistically and may be inaccurate or incomplete; please see our Terms of Service for important information about relying on AI output, allergens, and food safety. The Service does not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you using solely automated processing.
6. How We Share Information
We share personal information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: with vendors that perform services on our behalf and that are contractually obligated to protect your information, including cloud hosting and storage, authentication and sign-in providers (such as Apple and Google), the subscription-management provider that records your purchases and tells the app what your account is entitled to, and the third-party AI model providers that generate recipes as described in Section 5.
- Other users and the public: if and when you choose to share a recipe or other content with someone or publicly.
- Business transactions: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of our assets.
- Legal and safety: when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law or legal process, necessary to enforce our Terms, or necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Meal Whisperer, our users, or the public.
- With your consent: for any other purpose you specifically authorize.
- Aggregated or de-identified data: we may share information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that it cannot reasonably be linked back to you.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising.
7. Children and Family Use
Meal Whisperer is designed for individuals and households, and we recognize that cooking is often a family activity. To create an account, a user must be at least 13 years of age.
Users under 18. If you are under 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), you may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian, who is responsible for the minor's use of the Service and for ensuring that any information the minor provides is shared with appropriate parental consent and in compliance with applicable law. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and certain other jurisdictions, the minimum age at which a person can consent to the processing of their personal information without parental authorization may be higher than 13 (for example, 16 in some EU countries); where that is the case, a minor below that age may use the Service only with verifiable parental or guardian consent.
Children under 13. Consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without such consent, we will delete that information promptly.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information to us in a manner inconsistent with this Privacy Policy, please contact privacy@mealwhisperer.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action, which may include deleting the information and terminating the account.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service and fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required or permitted to retain it (for example, to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or prevent fraud and abuse). Records of purchases and subscriptions are one such exception: we and the app store retain transaction records for the period required by tax, accounting, and consumer-protection law, even after an account is deleted. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through an app store — you must cancel that through the store itself, or you may continue to be charged. Information that has been anonymized or aggregated may be retained indefinitely.
9. Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction, including encryption in transit and at rest where appropriate, access controls, and monitoring. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
10. International Data Transfers
Meal Whisperer is based in the United States, and we and our service providers may process personal information in the United States and other countries that may have data protection laws different from those in your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission and the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum. Copies of safeguards may be requested at privacy@mealwhisperer.com.
11. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights with respect to your personal information, including:
- Access: request a copy of personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: request deletion of personal information (subject to certain exceptions). You can also delete your account in the app.
- Portability: request a copy of your personal information in a portable format.
- Objection / restriction: object to or request restriction of certain processing.
- Withdraw consent: withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Non-discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
- Lodge a complaint: with your local data protection authority.
Much of your information can be viewed, edited, or deleted directly in the app. To exercise any of these rights, you can also contact us at privacy@mealwhisperer.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
11.1 U.S. State Residents
If you reside in California or another U.S. state with a comprehensive privacy law (such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, or Montana), you may have the rights described above. We collect the categories of personal information described in Section 2 and use and disclose them for the purposes described in Sections 3 and 6. We do not "sell" personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To the extent we collect sensitive personal information (such as the optional health-related goals you choose to provide), we use it to provide the features you request, and you may ask us to limit its use. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where required by law. You may exercise your rights using the methods in this Section.
11.2 EU/UK Residents
If you are in the EEA or UK, the data controller is Meal Whisperer LLC. You may contact us at privacy@mealwhisperer.com. You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country of residence.
12. Marketing Communications
If we send promotional emails, push notifications, or in-app messages, you can opt out at any time by following the instructions in the message, adjusting your notification settings, or contacting us. Even if you opt out of marketing, we may still send you transactional and service-related communications.
13. Third-Party Sites and Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites and services (for example, when you import a recipe from a link you provide). We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review the privacy policies of any third party you interact with.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by reasonable means (for example, by posting a notice in the Service, sending an email, or other notice required by law) and update the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

Website and the launch list
This section applies specifically to mealwhisperer.com. It sits alongside the policy above, which governs the Service as a whole.
What we collect on the website
- Your email address, but only if you type it in and join the launch list.
- Basic technical data. Our hosting provider records standard request logs (IP address, browser type, page requested, timestamp) as part of serving the site. We use these to keep the site up and to spot abuse.
We don't run advertising trackers on this site, and we don't build a profile of you from your browsing.
What we do with it
- Send you a message when Meal Whisperer launches, along with your early-member discount code.
- Occasionally share meaningful progress on the app before launch. Not often.
We use an email delivery service to store the list and send those messages. They process your email address on our behalf and under our instructions. They aren't allowed to use it for their own purposes.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe. Every message we send has an unsubscribe link.
- Delete. Email hello@mealwhisperer.com and we'll remove you.
- See what we have. Ask, and we'll tell you.
We keep your email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Our basis for emailing you is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
